Thandolwethu Nofomela

 

Thandolwethu is a Lighthouse Academy student. An LLB graduate from the University of the Western Cape (UWC), he has a deep-rooted passion for law, human rights, and justice. His journey into the legal world began within the Treatment Action Campaign, where he cultivated his commitment to human rights advocacy, becoming involved in in student leadership.

During his time at UWC, Thandolwethu was actively involved in leadership positions and initiatives, including in the Black Lawyers Association and the Law Students’ Council. He also served as the inaugural Junior Moot Officer of the Federation of African Law Students. He is a graduate of the UWC Students’ Leadership Academy’s Emerging Leaders Programme and in 2023, he was included on the Law Faculty’s Dean’s Merit List and subsequently gained membership in the Golden Key International Honour Society.

Thandolwethu’s interests span commercial law, intellectual property law, public law, and dispute resolution, with a particular focus on the evolving intersection of law and technology. At Lighthouse, he embraces the opportunity to apply his skills in a practical setting while exploring new and innovative models of legal service delivery. He is especially intrigued by how technology is reshaping the legal landscape and is eager to be at the forefront of this transformation.

Beyond law, Thandolwethu is an avid reader of non-fiction, with a keen interest in feminism, politics, economics, decolonialism, and spatial justice. In 2022 he self-published his debut poetry and prose collection, Nectar.
