Lighthouse Law Covid-19 Response
30 March 2020
“Be a Force for Good” is one of our core values at Lighthouse Law and our response to the devastating consequences of the Covid19 pandemic is grounded in that value. We continue to support our clients without disruption thanks to our existing remote working capability, and we are also committed to “flattening the curve” while at the same time mitigating damage to the economy. To this end, we have identified three funds to support: President Ramaphosa's Solidarity Fund, the Coronavirus Support Fund for healthcare workers set up by Gift of the Givers, and Xchange Connexion's Westlake community initiative.
Our Country
Lighthouse Law has contributed to the Solidarity Fund in South Africa set up by President Ramaphosa. As the president noted “Never before in the history of our democracy has our country been confronted by such a severe situation; but it is a situation which we will be able to overcome if we work together”. This fund aims to: prevent the spread of the disease by supporting measures to "flatten the curve"; detect and understand the magnitude of the disease; care for those in hospital or medical care; and support those whose lives have been disrupted by the pandemic.

Our Healthcare Services and Workers
Supporting our frontline healthcare workers and services is something we feel very strongly about. We have therefore contributed to the Coronavirus Support Fund set up by Gift of the Givers, which will support the doctors, nurses and medical staff that work in the ICU’s and high care units across South Africa. The funds raised will be used to help buy vital supplies including ventilation and intubation equipment and safety equipment for medical staff.

Our Community
The economic cost of the pandemic and lockdown is devastating to many impoverished communities in South Africa. We are therefore supporting an initiative set up by Xchange Connexion to support the basic needs of the most vulnerable residents in Westlake Village, an informal settlement close to the Lighthouse office.

Our Clients
Lighthouse Law has always operated by providing both remote and in person support to our clients. We have seamlessly moved to a remote only service during the lockdown to continue supporting our clients. The pandemic and its knock-on effects have had serious implications for our clients’ businesses. We have assisted our clients by guiding them through new and evolving rules and regulations and by putting in place practical solutions, including:
Advice on lockdown regulations, ensuring continuity of key services and attendance by essential employees
Technology based solutions for generating key worker permits
Contractual rights and remedies in the face of the pandemic and its impact on a party’s ability to perform under a contract
If we can help you please contact any one of the Lighthouse lawyers directly or email us at hello@lighthouse.law .
